South Congress (Soco) is considered to be where Austin grew from and expanded. Late in the 60’s hippies and beatniks populated this area giving Austin it’s distinction from the rest of Texas. Today the neighborhood has changed, but the relaxed vibe has remained the same. Many innovative condominiums have popped up in the area, and many of them are focused on sustainable living. Recycle bins next to soaring trees are a common site in front of condos as many who live here are environmentally conscious. Art galleries, vintage shops, and bars adorn the streets and weekends are the favorite time for street vendors to come out with homemade wares. While some of the restaurants on the street cater to adults, there are plenty of family friendly restaurants. The local and celebrity favorite Tex-Mex, Guaros, is located within walking distance from Soco condos. Walking out of your condo you will find plenty of small gourmet groceries and bakeries, which make everyday shopping easier.
Soco’s neighborhood is not only nestled in thick trees, but is in close proximity to the famous Zilker Park and Barton Springs. The park offers botanical gardens, Frisbee golf, hiking trails, and enough activities to keep you in shape. A dip and a picnic at Barton Springs is an Austin tradition. Besides watching nature both areas offer live music year round and fireworks during holidays. One of the reasons you should buy a Soco condo is not only for the investment, but also the many things you or your family can do without jumping in the car. Spending the day hiking, enjoying tacos, and grabbing a drink can be right outside of your condo’s door.
